The girl settled into her seat, head cocked to the side in a curious gesture, as she listened to him, she knew, of course, that she had never been very succesful at hiding her feelings, and the man had caught her. When he finished, she dwelled on his words, wondering first, what he meant by being shunned by his daughter, then she wondered what he had meant by this was not where he and his daughter were meant to end up. It seemed like a nice enough place to her, she was also wondering why they didn't speak anymore, but she managed to keep an expressionless face. The girl seemed a bit confused as to what he meant by Robin, is an interesting girl, who is so much more like her mother than I, though they don't look in any way alike., she decided that his daughter must look more like him, and that in her personality she was more like her mother, though she still couldn't place what, exactly he was saying.
A slightly shocked expression crossed the girls face at the stalking comment, but subsided, quickly as it had appeared. Did he really think she would stalk the girl? Maybe what he meant was try to contact her, that had been in her thoughts, this man seemed nice enough, and if his daughter was more her age, she might like to meet her. She decided that if by some chance the two met, she wouldn't say anything about her father, as it seemed they didn't have a very good relationship anymore, though she was curious as to why that was, she kept her mouth shut, and her face untelling as possible. Instead, she decided to ask him what he meant about his fear that she would stalk Robin, it was clear that he still cared very much for his daughter, and Christy could detect a bit of sadness in his face, atleast, she thought that was what it was. "What do you mean by stalk her? And do you honestly think that I would?" Her chocolate brown eyes were soft, an honest and open expression on her face.

He laughed slightly, his eyes sparkling. "Well, it is wise to be cautious, but I strongly suspect you are not a stalker." A slightly wistful look appeared in his eye, as he began to speak of his daughter once more. "She is a girl of around your age, perhaps a little younger. And once, we lived happily, her me and my wife. But on that night so many years ago, something happened that destroyed my life. Destroyed all of our lives. Robin... oh Robin, she was hurt, anguished, almost like she had lost the will to live. Her life was a blatant monotone of obnoxious tasks, that she seemed only too happy to be rid of. I wanted to help her. I tried to help her. And I believe I did, but the cost was our relationship."
He paused, clearly wondering whether he had said too much, but he continued, a weary look returning to his face. "But in the end, I was the one who suffered. Robin, so like her mother, was an independant soul, never staying grounded for too long. So she left me. And I was left without a family to turn to, as she no longer wished to speak to me. I think she blamed me for what happened to her mother. I don't know why." He paused, sighing loudly, and resting his head on his hand. "I just don't know why I let her go. Things would be different now."

Christy sat quietly, simply listening, as her friends back home had showed her so many times, since it was really what she thought he needed. Thought she was a bit surprised that he had begun to tell her more about his daughter, she was glad that he trusted her enough, even if he wasn't being very specific. The girl wondered what had happened that night, though decided not to pry, as that was, she thought, one of the worst things you can do when someone is.. venting, for lack of a better word. Nodding softly, she sort of understood, she hadn't had a very good relationship with her mother, but had always been very close to her father. She could tell when he paused that he wasn't sure if he should go on, but when the weary look returned and he continued, she was alert and attentive.
She was nodding softly, that kind of nod, where you aren't really giving any kind of answer, but where you're showing that you understand, or are trying to, and that you're there for someone. She was wondering what had happened to his wife, and Robin's mother, but she was still silent, dwelling on how his daughter had just up and left him, but still listening to the rest of what he had to say. When he sighed and put his head in his hand, C.K. wanted to comfort him somehow, though she wasn't sure what to do, so she gave him a gentle, but awkward pat on the hand, making it clear she wanted to help in whatever way she could. Letting a silence settle over them, the girl watched him quietly, wondering what he was thinking, and deciding that she didn't really need to say anything just then. She gave an understanding smile, a kind expression on her face.

Simon smiled at her gesture of comfort. "Oh, your so friendly. You wouldn't believe the type of people I've met here. There was one guy who got drunker and drunker until he finally kissed the bartender on the cheek, who socked him in the face. It was really quite amusing," he said, cocking his head once more in the expression he wore so often. "You could just imagine me, being not more than a little bit afraid of this man, who seemed to be more of a funny drunk than anything else, but still," he repeated the fraise he had used earlier. "It's always wise to be cautious."
He felt their conversation turn back to polite banter, and didn't feel the need to disclose much more about his wife, but this girl seemed trustworthy, and perhaps he could confide in her? He shrugged inwardly, watching her closely.

Christy laughed quietly. "Hmm, I would have liked to see that. Though, I think if someone gets that drunk, shouldn't the bartender stop giving them drinks?" She still looked amused, then shrugged one shoulder, smiling. "Yes, I guess it is always wise to be cautious." The girl looked as if she were about to say more, but she trailed off, looking thoughtful. Simon seems nice enough, I can trust him, can't I? She told herself yes, though she wasn't sure why she was asking herself the question, she didn't really have anything to confide in him, though she was happy just to be talking to someone. Sighing a bit she looked at her drink, pushed it toward the bartender and ordered a beer, smiling now she took a sip. Putting her drink back on the counter she looked to Simon.
"I feel like I know more about you than you know about me." She smiled a bit, tucking her hair behind her ears so it would stop falling into her face.

"Perhaps we could change that?" he said, resting his chin against his hands.
He waited politely for her to either decline the request or answer, fingering a lock of dark hair, then smoothing it down. He did this repeatedly, seeming preoccupied. Then he looked up and spoke, his voice slightly cautious, and infused with a sort of sickly polite tone. "Where are you from?"

After Simon had asked her where she was from she just looked at him for a moment, head tilted slightly to the side, before settling her gaze on the wall behind him, apparently lost in thought. Out of habit she ran her fingers under and through her hair, pulling it away from her head and letting it fall back again, scrunching up her face everytime she hit a knot. She looked up finally. "Hmm... I like to call it a small town, but it really isn't.. I grew up in Keene, New Hampshire..." Christy smiled wistfully, cocking her head to the side, her eyes bright. "I miss it.." It was barely a mutter, but you would still be able to hear it, she glanced up at Simon, smiling.

He returned the smile, still looking politely interested, though now the look in his eye was genuine. Fleetingly, a look of slight distress crossed his face, but it vanished and was replaced again with the characteristic look of thoughtful interest, that seemed to light up his face once more.
"New Hampshire..." he said, again seeming to cringe slightly at the name. He gazed almost wistfully off into another corner of the shabby bar. "Perhaps heartbreak lies there for me, more than anywhere else," he said, slowly, putting thought into every word out of his mouth. He glanced downward, seemingly intensely interested in a strand of fabric, splaying out from a whole in his slightly faded jeans. Slight color seemed to rise up his cheeks, as if he was embarrassed by what he had said.
